Clean Eating
Eating clean can mean different things to different people. That’s because we all have different foodie likes and dislikes.
As a Nutritionist eating clean means to me eating a balanced diet rich in whole-foods, protein, healthy fats and carbohydrates. This usually includes eating lots of fibre!
Truly! Fibre is your friend!
Always ensure you drink plenty of water. When you eat clean your fibre intake should increase too and increased fibre needs lots of water to help moves things along in the digestive tract. Not to mention you’ll keep hydrated and help flush unwanted toxins from the body. Better bowels means better skin, hormones and mental health too!
Clean eating also means eating the rainbow with a variety of fresh vegetables and fruit, which are rich in phytonutrients, vitamins and minerals. They’ll help increase your energy and boost your immune system.
Usually vegetables account for the bulk of your diet. Including plenty of leafy greens such as kale, broccoli, chard and spinach are great for your digestive tract as well as managing your hormones and weight.
Leafy greens are full of vitamins and minerals, including my favourite, relaxing magnesium.
Eating your veggies raw or steamed to retain most of their nutrients, vitamins and minerals makes life a little more easy.
Eating raw veggies on the run when you are time poor or in lunchboxes such as baby carrots and snow pears are mine and the kids favourite. Whilst steaming veggies for a quick dinner literally takes minutes.
Eating clean shouldn’t be complicated, keep it simple and stress free!
